Curriculum Policies

We aim to:

·       work in partnership with parents to encourage the development of the whole child

·       create a variety of opportunities for play which will stimulate interest and imagination

·       encourage children to explore, appreciate and respect their environment

·       extend children’s abilities to communicate ideas and feelings in a variety of ways

To achieve these aims we will follow National and Local Guidelines, in particular the document “A Curriculum Framework for Children 3 to 5”. We will:

·       plan contexts for learning through play, on a daily, weekly and yearly basis, which will provide breadth and balance across the key aspects of learning and development

·       use the information provided by parents and other professionals about children’s interests, previous experiences and stages of development to plan relevant programmes

·       use observations and assessments of children to plan next steps in learning and ensure progression in key aspects of development

·       regularly evaluate plans and practice, and make adjustments where necessary

·       ensure that parents are well informed about the experiences on offer to the children

·       ensure that flexibility is built into programmes to allow for the unexpected

·       organise and plan the resources and programmes of the Nursery to maximise the opportunities for the children to make choices

·       ensure that the Nursery environment, both indoors and outside, provides motivating and challenging activities which are suitable to the needs of all of the children

·       use our knowledge of individual children to interact  where appropriate, to extend and maximise the learning experience of the child

N.B. Key aspects of learning and development are:

·       emotional, personal and social development

·       communication and language

·       knowledge and understanding of the world

·       expressive and aesthetic development

·       physical development and movement
